Grabbers gets a release date

Grabbers is finally getting a cinematic release. It’s taken a bit of time, but we’re pretty sure it's going to be worth the wait. After being in distribution limbo for a while, Element pictures have picked up the distribution rights for the movie that was recently described as “feckin brilliant” in the Edinburgh Reporter.

Grabbers will open the Galway Film Fleadh on July 10th and will go on general release from August 10th!

Synopsis: Directed by Jon Wright, GRABBERS tells the story of CiarĂ¡n O’Shea, a charming but heavy-drinking local Garda who is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced young officer who has just arrived to a small fishing village off the West coast of Ireland. Not that there’s much for them to do, aside from dealing with the occasional drunk, and that’s usually O’Shea himself. But strange doings are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore, a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to Garda O’Shea and Nolan that there’s something big out there, and that it’s hungry. It’s time to rally the villagers, arm the troops…and head to the pub!

Released: August 10th

Taken 2 Trailer Escapes Online

'We will have our revenge...'

While he was understandably miffed that slave traders kidnapped his daughter back in 2008’s Taken, Liam Neeson is now learning that his violent, stabby / shooty reaction had consequences. Here comes the trailer for Taken 2, which finds the heroic Bryan Mills in a spot of trouble thanks to Rade Serbedzija’s Murad and his need for revenge. Take a look below it looks AWESOME.

After a pleasant surprise visit from daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) and wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) in Istanbul, Bryan gets a less enjoyable shock when Lenore is targeted and he’s threatened. Guess what he’s going to do? Go on, we bet you can’t figure out that he’s going to use his particular set of skills to try to save his family (and himself) once more.

Olivier Megaton takes over the directing chores this time around and delivers almost exactly what you’d expect based on this footage. We know Neeson can deliver the action goods, so the only real question is, will this live up to the original?

Taken 2 will hit our screens on October 5.

Rihanna Gets New Film Role

Since attending Battleship press, Rihanna has been very vocal about taking a break from her hectic music schedule to take more film roles. It looks like Rihanna got her wish, and recently scored a role alongside The Big Bang Theory actor Jim Parsons.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced the news that Jim Parsons and Pop singer Rihanna will star in a DreamWorks film called Happy Smekday!, an animated film about an alien race that invades Earth and uses the planet to hideout from their number one enemy.
The film will be Rihanna’s first animated film, which is actually an adaptation of Adam Rex’s book titled “The True Meaning of Smekday.” In the director’s chair is Tim Johnson a man who’s no stranger to the animation world. In the past he’s co-directed DreamWorks Animation’s popular hits such as Antz and Over the Hedge. This project starring Rihanna and Parsons will be his first time going solo.

Smekday! was described as a magical film that makes an alien invasion sound friendly, which sees the aliens using Earth as their ultimate hideout place from their enemy. Of course, one naive alien notifies his whereabouts to their enemy. Because of that he is then cast out and forced to run from the scene with a teenage girl. Their on the run journey takes them on what’s said to be a comical road-trip across a post-apocalyptic backdrop. Together they learn about each others differences and common bond.

The animated film is slated to be released during the fourth quarter in 2014.

The Hangover boys to Sin again

The Hangover 3 will see the lads returning to Las Vegas.

While the second instalment in the comedy franchise - starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis - was set in Asia, the third and final movie will be based in the gambling capital in the state of Nevada.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, parts of the film featuring guest star Mike Tyson will be shot just off the Las Vegas Strip and at Caesars Palace.

The movie is set to feature the friends trying to spring Alan (Galifianakis) from a mental hospital and will also be shot in Tijuana and Los Angeles with production expected to begin in September.

Director Todd Phillips is back on board for the project and promised the customary "mayhem, despair and bad decisions".

He said: "I'm so excited to embark on another Hangover film with Bradley, Ed and Zach. We're going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned.

"It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions."

Speaking about the project previously, leading man Bradley, who plays Phil, claimed it would be unlikely to "adhere to the structure" of the previous two movies.

He said: "We adhered to the formula in the second one, for those of you who've seen it, and the third one, which would close the whole, sort of, trilogy, which now it would be a trilogy - even though we thought we would never make a second one, let alone anybody see the first one.

"I think it will maybe not adhere to the structure. It might be different."

Michael Bay Transforms Expectations For 'Transformers 4'

It's no surprise that Michael Bay is currently working on "Transformers 4" despite his assurances that "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" would be his last installment of the franchise. After all, $1.1 billion dollars worldwide has a way of making you reconsider your career path.

But what is a surprise is what he's saying about "Transformers 4:" There will be no Shia LaBeouf and no Sam Witwicky.

"It's a new cast," Bay told The Los Angeles Times. “We’ve moving on to something different."

And just how different may surprise even the most hardcore "Transformers" fan.

Before we get into details, though, we want to make one thing clear: "Transformers 4" is not going to be an "Amazing Spider-Man" style reboot. How do we know? Because Bay talked at length on that very subject.

"It's not a reboot, that's maybe the wrong word," Bay said. "I don't want to say reboot because then people will think we're doing a 'Spider-Man' and starting from the beginning. We're not. We're taking the story that you've seen — the story we've told in three movies already — and we're taking it in a new direction. But we're leaving those three as the history. It all still counts."

So if there's no Sam Witwicky, just what is this new direction? Could it be straight up into outer space where the Decepticons and Autobots originally came from?

"I think so, yeah, a little," Bay said. "That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off but I don't want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded. That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible.

"It's kind of daunting and scary," Bay added. "You want to try to keep it going, to match what’s come before. We've accomplished a lot but that doesn't mean you get anything handed to you or that you've got everything figured out."

Well, here's hoping he gets it all figured out before "Transformers 4" hits theaters in 2014. After all, fans are expecting more than meets the eye — they're expecting to be blown away. And that's something Bay is very, very good at.

Carrey Ditches Dumb & Dumber Sequel

It was all going so well for the Dumb & Dumber sequel… At least, it seemed to be. But the Farrelly brothers’ plan to return to the film that launched them onto an unsuspecting world has hit a serious roadblock as Jim Carrey has decided to drop out of starring as Lloyd Christmas.

So if you were in any way looking forward to seeing Carrey back as Lloyd alongside Jeff Daniels as Harry Dunne, you’re going to be disappointed. According to Entertainment Tonight’s sources (as picked up by The Hollywood Reporter), the big sticking point was the perceived lack of studio support from Warners and New Line. "I would have thought Dumb & Dumber Two was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title," Carrey said in a statement.

Of course, there’s always the chance the studio could coax him back and things will return to full speed in development. After all, we're talking about the Farrellys, who waited years to get The Three Stooges on the screen. They're patient. Even if they have to recreate Carrey digitally from bits of his wacky website, they'll make this happen.

With Peter and Bobby looking to get back in the shared director’s chair, Sex Drive team Sean Anders and John Morris were on board to write the script. The big question now: will the Carrey squawk about more money before signing on?

Latest Trailer For The Watch Hits (Ben Stillers new movie)

Stiller's chilling with his crew

We’ve already had a couple of trailers for Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill’s new comedy The Watch, but 20th Century Fox’s international team figured we could all do with one more. So now, dug up by the team at The Film Stage, comes the latest promo, which does actually feature a fair amount of new footage.

We’re also given a little bit more plot this time around, introduced to Stiller as a slightly overachieving busybody who runs various organisations intended to make his suburban neighbourhood pristine and perfect.

But when he decides to launch a Neighbourhood Watch program, the recruits' intentions aren’t quite as community-minded. There’s Bob (Vaughn) who sees the Watch as a chance to hang with a crew and avoid family responsibility. Franklin (Hill) is a young man with a yearning for real power, who tried out for the police department but was rejected because he’s a violent loon when provoked. And then there’s Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade, finally given more to do here) who… well, he’s got his own reasons for signing on.

We also get some brief moments with Stiller’s wife (Rosemarie DeWitt) and little extra peek at the aliens that the group tangles with.

The Watch arrives on August 29.

Jurassic Park Goes 3D

The original Jurassic Park movie arrives back in cinemas with a 3D conversion on July 19, 2013 in the States and possibly the same day here. This movie was a Box-Office mash on both sides of the Atlantic. And people can still remember the screams for the audience in movie theaters.

Here is the movie trailer below!!

Dredd trailer looks awesome

Now this is how you do a Judge Dredd movie. After copious amounts of images dropped for this reboot, we now get a trailer, giving us our first proper look of what is in store. I just love the entire look and feel you get from this trailer, Karl Urban seems like a good fit for Joe Dredd, and some of the action promised looks really impressive. Roll on September.

Synopsis: The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

Released: 7th September 2012 (U.K./IRE)/

Jurassic Park 4 Gets New Writers

Planet Of The Apes duo go dino

After lurking in the bushes of limbo for years, occasionally leaping out with tales of genetically modified soldier dinos and cities over run, word on Jurassic Park 4 seemed destined to stay as rumour. But then last year, shortly before Comic-Con, word emerged that head warden Steven Spielberg was developing other ideas for the fourth trip to Isla Nubla and its environs with Mark Protosevich. At the event itself last July, Spielberg confirmed that they were working on stories. Fast-forward to today, and Deadline reports that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes writing team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are aboard to craft the script.

Given their experiences with genetically tinkered creatures gone wild, they seem like a good call, especially since they were able to inject so much real feeling into what could have been your average ape adventure.

Details are naturally scarce, with Spielberg and co-producer Kathleen Kennedy guarding information like a T-Rex protecting its young. We do know, however, that the man who brought us the first two movies is handing over the megaphone to someone else, as he did with Joe Johnston and Jurassic Park 3.

For now, the project remains snuffling in the development undergrowth, but this is another real sign of life. If you’re craving actual dino footage, however, you’ll have to wait until the original movie arrives back in cinemas with a 3D conversion on July 19, 2013 in the States and possibly the same day here.

Dirty Dancing Remake Back On Ice

While we don’t see the torrent of remakes slowing down any time soon, it would appear that at least one project is being throttled back, with news that Lionsgate has decided to postpone its reboot of classic ‘80s hoofing drama Dirty Dancing.

The idea of following up, or, in this case, going back to the beginning with the tale of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and hunky dance instructor beau Johnny Castle has been a troubled one for years. While a sequel was developed and then stalled, Artisan got the rights and pumped out Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights with new characters back in 2004. That didn’t fly at the box office, so in 2009, the company’s new owners, Lionsgate, decided to go the remake route.

Last year, the movie pushed forward as High School Musical director Kenny Ortega was hired to start tracking down a cast. But while several well known names (including Glee’s Lea Michele) have auditioned, and a July 2013 release date pencilled in, nothing concrete has happened and the film won’t see cinemas until 2014 at the earliest. We know, we know… You’re devastated. You’ll make it through.

Madagascar 3 topped the weekend box office

Box office report: 'Madagascar 3' earns $35.5M, more than 'Rock of Ages' and 'That's My Boy' combined

A couple of high-profile openers couldn’t force the animals of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted into their cages. The animated comedy topped the box office once again this weekend, while Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy delivered majorly disappointing debuts.

Dreamworks’ $145 million effort Madagascar 3 roared a second time following its $60.3 million start. The CG-animated film dipped 41 percent to $35.5 million this frame, which was better than the second weekend decline of its predecessor, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which fell by 45 percent and had earned a slightly softer $116.9 million at the same point in its run.

New Expendables 2 Poster is here

Fire. Explosions. Guns. A plane. Knives. The primarily older cast standing, looking like they’d tear your spine out if you so much as glanced at them in the wrong way.

You’ll know the plot by now – Sly’s Barney Ross and his assembled band of mercenaries are recruited by Willis’ Church to go on what should be an easy mission. But it’s a job that leaves one of their number dead and the rest growling for revenge. So with a new, younger member (Liam Hemsworth’s Bill “The Kid” Timmons) and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Trench along for the ride, they decide to exact violent justice while also trying to save the world from nutcase terrorist type Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme, playing a bad guy with less of a name and more of a wink).

With Simon West marshalling the troops this time, The Expendables 2 will shoot into cinemas on August 17. Check out the latest trailer right here…

First Dredd Poster Arrives

Judgement is coming

Dredd, of course, adapts John Wagner’s 2000AD creation for what promises to be a much harder-edged film than the 1995 Sylvester Stallone effort.

With Alex Garland writing the script and Pete Travis directing, Dredd is scheduled to hit on September 7. We’re hopeful that the stills look like they’ve been pulled from a trailer, so we’ll see something soon.

Warner Bros Hires New Justice League Writer

Even before Marvel’s superhero team got together and began Hulk smashing box office records all over the place, Warner Bros. wanted to try to do something similar with its own comic-based universe and gather the Justice League. But though the studio has already tried and failed at least once to get the gang together without taking the longer Marvel road and establishing everyone first, that hasn’t put the studio off the idea, setting Gangster Squad writer Will Beall the task of getting it started.

Though Beall was hired ahead of Cap and co starting their triumphant box office march, the studio will certainly be pressing him to deliver now they sense there is gold to be found in superhero team-ups.

Beall has become something of a hot property at Warners, having written Gangster Squad (set to arrive here on November 9) and from that winning him the task of the Lethal Weapon reboot and the Logan’s Run remake, which boasts Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling as the other main talent.

Joe and Anthony Russo on for Captain America 2

Joe and Anthony Russo in final talks to direct Caption America 2

On Tuesday 5th June, rumours cropped up about the latest possible addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. But there’s much more solid word today on developments with one of the company’s cornerstone characters: sibling directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo are in final talks to command the Captain America sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo brothers beat the likes of The Adjustment Bureau’s George Nolfi and Law Abiding Citizen’s F Gary Gray for the job. The application process was a long and secretive one,

Little is known about the actual plot of the Cap follow-up, though we do believe it’ll see Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) still struggling to adapt to life as a man out of time in a post-Avengers world. Whether it will also feature adventures back in World War II – either via the medium of flashbacks or time travel – is still locked in Marvel’s chamber of secrets, but currently the first film’s writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are tasked with cranking out the script.

Samuel L. Jackson Joins 'RoboCop' Remake

The cast of Jose Padilha's remake of "RoboCop" continues to grow stronger and stronger. The latest man to join the cast is Samuel L. Jackson, who will be playing an updated version of Bixby Snyder in the upcoming film.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news, saying that Jackson plays a "charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world." It's definitely a spin on the character we knew in the previous incarnation of the film, but it seems like a smart decision for Padilha to separate himself from what came before.

Jackson joins an already impressive cast including Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman. Kinnaman will play an updated version of protagonist Alex Murphy, while Oldman plays the creator of RoboCop and a character that's unique to this film.

New Pan movie

We pretty much guarantee Sean Bean won't be beheaded in this dark re-imagining of author J.M. Barrie's tale of Peter Pan. Bean plays Smee, a cop who aids former detective Hook (Aaron Eckhart) in his pursuit of a childlike kidnapper. AnnaSophia Robb ("Soul Surfer") joins them as Wendy, the only kid who's ever escaped the villain's clutches.

It is set 15 years after the siblings' traumatic gingerbread-house incident, when they are bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

The Little Mermaid still at the drawing board

Director Joe Wright ("Atonement," "Pride and Prejudice") helms this new version of the Hans Christian Andersen classic. It's the tale of a young mermaid who gives up her life aquatic to love a human prince on land, penned by Abi Morgan ("Shame," "The Iron Lady"). No cast members have been officially announced.

Jack the Giant Killer hits big screen in 2013

Fee-fi-fo fum. We smell the blood of actor Nicholas Hoult as Jack -- you know, the one who climbs the beanstalk magically growing outside his window and battles a fearsome race of giants. Naturally, there's also a princess involved, played by Eleanor Tomlinson. Noted director Bryan Singer ("The Usual Suspects," "X-Men") brings it to the screen in March 2013.

Amy Adams will reportedly reprise her role as Giselle in this Disney sequel to the blockbuster 2007 film, which brought the fairy tale princess to real-life New York City in her quest for love. James Marsden, Julie Andrews and Patrick Dempsey are also rumored to be part of the cast again for this 2014 release.

Pinocchio may hit big screens in 2014

With Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy") at the helm, this is certain to be a darker version of the classic children's fairy tale of a wooden puppet that transforms into a real living boy. Daniel Radcliffe is rumored to star, with a shoot planned to start next summer. And should hit the movie theaters in 2014

Guy Ritchie To Helm ‘Treasure Island’

Warner Bros has attached Guy Ritchie to direct a new version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate tale Treasure Island, and has set Alex Harakis to write the script. Ritchie will produce the film with his partner Lionel Wigram and Langley Park’s Kevin McCormick. It was Wigram who originally set up a stylized version of the classic novel, much the way he did Sherlock Holmes, which Ritchie directed. He set it up before he and Ritchie became partners. Their first move after partnering was to take on The Man From U.N.C.L.E., after Steven
Soderbergh dropped out of the film. UTA and Magnet Management rep Harakis

Christina Applegate reporting for 'Anchorman 2'

When the Channel 4 News Team reunited in the teaser trailer for Anchorman 2, there was one crucial member missing. Ron Burgandy’s non-male co-anchor Veronica Corningstone. Rest assured, German-speaking residents of Whale’s Vagina San Diego, Christina Applegate will be back to joust and jest with our fearless leader. The actress’ spokesperson confirms a report from E!, who asked costar David Koechner about her return on the red carpet of Piranha 3Dd.

Details about the new film’s plot are still sketchy, but Koechner said that “It’s set around the advent of the 24-hour news channel.” Obviously, that

Apes Sequel Set For 2014 along with the next x-men movie

Some days are clearly just designated as “dump a load of release dates and announcements all in one big press release" day. Such as today, with 20th Century Fox letting loose a host of release dates and a few other pertinent pieces of information. Such as? Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sequel, currently titled Dawn* Of The Planet Of The Apes, will howl its way into US cinemas on May 23, 2014

Not much is known about the Apes sequel, beyond the fact that Rupert Wyatt will be back in the director’s chair, Andy Serkis will once again play Caesar and the plot will be set a little further down the line towards the simian domination of Earth.

Shortly after that, we’re scheduled to meet up with Magneto and co once more for the fast-developing X-Men: First Class sequel. That one doesn’t have a title currently, presumably because the studio and director Matthew Vaughn have rejected all of the silly ideas we’ve broached so far. So if you want someone to blame for the film not being called X-Men: Parcelforce, don't come complaining to us. The movie is set to arrive on July 18, 2014.

Both movies will be following in the shadow of another big release, as Steven Spielberg plans to unleash Robopocalypse upon an unsuspecting world. Set your smart phones to begin counting down to their freedom and your doom, as it all kicks off on April 25, 2014. That's a change from the previously announced date of July 3, 2013. Still, something big has moved in instead...

Independence Day Goes 3D In 2013

If you watched Independence Day when it arrived back in 1996 and thought, “this is nice, but I really wish the White House could explode all over my face,” we worry about you and would change seats to not sit next to you in a cinema. But the bosses at 20th Century Fox were clearly thinking something similar, as the alien invasion blockbuster will be getting a shiny 3D makeover for 2013.

Capitalising on the profits earned by the re-released Titanic, the studio is working with Stereo 3D (which did the conversion on James Cameron’s film) to bring Roland Emmerich’s patriotic explosion-fest back to screens. The film is slipping into a July 3, 2013 release date, which has just been vacated by Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse.

And who knows? If the 3D re-release is a success, it might kick-start work on the long-developing ID4 sequels...

But I have to ask: does Independence Day need a 3D makeover?
